Activities

While in Vancouver it is our job to make sure you have the best time possible. Vancouver has every sport and recreational activity imaginable and there will be plenty of activities and social events that you can participate in while learning English.

You will have access to skiing, snowboarding, mountain biking, sailing, horseback riding, beach volleyball etc. Your days can be spent visiting museums, enjoying plays and concerts and of course, nightclubs. At The English Club your social calendar will always be full.

Vancouver Attractions

Vancouver has some of the most spectacular attractions with the breathtaking Coast Range Mountains as a backdrop, the waters of the Pacific at its shore and exceptional greenery. But scenery is not all there is to Vancouver for it is truly a cosmopolitan city and the attractions are plentiful.

WhalesIn Stanley Park you can visit the Vancouver Aquarium with over 8,000 animals on view. At the Arctic Canada Gallery learn about the chilly habitat of the beluga whale or visit the Graham Amazon Gallery to discover giant fresh water fish, brilliant scarlet ibis and free ranging sloths.
Visit the Stanley Park Site for information on horse-drawn tours of the park.

Discover the Pacific Northwest as you watch majestic killer whales, giant Pacific Octopus and playful sea otters or visit a living rainbow at the colourful Indonesian Coral Reef with blacktip reef sharks and Hawaiian stingrays.

ImaxClose to Stanley Park, on the waterfront at Canada Place, you can get a sensory blast at the CN IMAX Theatre. With a 5-storey high screen and wraparound IMAX Digital Sound, IMAX and IMAX 3D will place you right in the action. You'll explore the four corners of the world as never before. For a different but still spectacular 360 degree view take the ride in the glass enclosed elevator to the viewing deck atop the 167 metre (553 ft.) Harbour Centre Tower. Many of the questions you have can be answered by photo-fact plaques or the trained tour guides.

A great place to take the kids is Science World British Columbia. Hands on exhibits will amaze you. Step inside a beaver den, lose your shadow, see colour where there is only black and white or step on sound. Experience OMNIMAX films on one of the worlds largest domed screens and don't forget to check out the new 3-D laser theatre. Science World is located at the Science World/Main Street Station right downtown.

Also close to town is The Pacific Space Centre - Home of the H.R. MacMillan Planetarium and Gordon M. Southam Observatory.

Capliano BridgeIn North Vancouver, an easy trip across the harbour, there are a couple of great places to visit. Originally built in 1889 of hemp rope and cedar planks, Vancouver's first tourist attraction, the Capilano Suspension Bridge stretches 450 feet across and 230 feet above the Capilano River.

Surrounded by majestic evergreens the gently swaying bridge looks down on trout ponds in summer and white water kayakers in winter. Not far away is the year round adventure of Grouse Mountain. Take the Skyride to the top and take in the spectacular view of the city, mountains and sea. In summer you can walk the hiking trails or take in a Logger Sports Shows and in the winter you can enjoy night and day skiing or a horse-drawn sleigh ride.

Dr. Sun Yat-SenFor the garden lover Vancouver offers some unique experiences. Located right in the heart of Vancouver's Chinatown you will find the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Garden. The first authentic classical Chinese garden built outside mainland China it is representative of the Ming Dynasty and built by hand by craftsmen brought from China and of materials imported mainly from Suzhou, China's premier garden city.

At the University of British Columbia you can visit Canada's oldest botanical garden and a classical Japanese garden.

The above are just a few of the attractions you can experience in the Vancouver area. Just walking the city with it's different ethnic communities and excellent shopping districts is an experience in itself.
